Background: Trichomoniasis is the most frequent STD (sexually transmitted disease) among non-virus-causing organisms globally. This study aims to detect infections, caused by Trichomonas vaginalis in urine and secretions from the vagina to find out if there is a connection between demographic variables and the results.
Methods: The total examined specimens were 264 from patients, 165 females by vaginal swabs and 99 males by urethral discharge and urine specimens, along with samples from the same patients and 25 samples from healthy male and female (control) people with ages varying from fourteen to fifty-eight old who visited hospitals and clinics in various parts of Al-Najaf province between September 2024, and September 2025.
Results: Present study showed that the greatest infection incidence was found to be 13.63% with T. vaginalis, according to results from the wet mount planning, direct gram smear, and general urine examination (GUE). In this experiment, the general exam was the most effective test for identifying T. vaginalis.
Conclusions: the general exam was the most effective test for identifying T.vaginalis. Results revealed that the infection rate was 11.51% in females, whilst in males were 17.17%. Also the study showed that the highest percentage (26.6%,20.5%) of infection by T.vaginalis was in the age group 21-27 years, 28-34 respectively for both sexes .
